PARTNERSHIP APPROACHES.
The Community Resilience Agency (CRA) in South Sudan adopts a partnership approach to build resilience and promote sustainable development in the country. The agency recognizes that building resilience requires a collaborative effort between various stakeholders, including:
- Government Agencies: The CRA partners with government agencies, such as the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Response, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Education, to use their resources, ability, and authority.
- NGOs: The CRA collaborates with local and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to amplify its reach, impact, and sustainability. Partnerships with NGOs enable the sharing of resources, ability, and best practices.
- Community-Based Organizations: The CRA partners with community-based organizations (CBOs), such as community groups, women’s organizations, and youth organizations, to ensure that local voices are heard and that solutions are community-driven.
- Private Sector: The CRA partners with private sector companies to use their resources, ability, and networks to support business development and job creation in crisis-affected areas.
- International Organizations: The CRA collaborates with international organizations, such as the United Nations agencies, to access global resources, ability, and funding opportunities.
- Local Authorities: The CRA collaborates closely with local authorities, such as county commissioners, district administrators, and local government officials, to ensure that community needs are addressed and that local systems are strengthened.

Target Beneficiaries
The Community Resilience Agency (CRA) in South Sudan adopts a partnership approach to build resilience and promote sustainable development in the country. The agency recognizes that building resilience requires a collaborative effort between various stakeholders, including:
- Women and children: are disproportionately affected by conflict and crises and are often.
- Displaced Persons: Internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict or violence. The CRA provides them with emergency aid, such as food, shelter, and medical care.
- Host Communities: Local communities that are hosting IDPs and refugees, who often face challenges in providing for the other needs of these displaced individuals. The CRA collaborates with host communities to provide them with resources and support to alleviate these burdens.
- Women and Children most vulnerable members of society. The CRA provides them with targeted support, such as education, skills training, and health services.
- Small-Scale Farmers: Small-scale farmers who have been affected by conflict or natural disasters and are struggling to access resources and markets. The CRA collaborates with these farmers to provide them with training, tools, and support to improve their agricultural productivity and livelihoods.
- Youth: Young people who have been affected by conflict or displacement and are at risk of being recruited into armed groups or engaging in risky behaviors. The CRA provides them with education, skills training, and mentorship to help them build a positive future.
- People with Disabilities: People with disabilities who are often overlooked in humanitarian responses. The CRA provides them with specialized support and aid to help them access essential services and take part fully in their communities.
- Local Authorities: Local authorities who play a critical role in responding to crises and providing services to affected communities. The CRA collaborates closely with local authorities to strengthen their ability to respond to emergencies and promote resilience.
- Community Leaders: Community leaders who play a key role in promoting community cohesion and resilience. The CRA collaborates with community leaders to empower them to take ownership of the community.
CRA Major Thematic Areas
We focus on empowering the most vulnerable communities in South Sudan, particularly those affected by the armed conflicts and natural disasters. These communities face a multitude of challenges, and our interventions address the following critical needs:
- Protection (Child Protection & Gender Based Violence GBV): We work to prevent gender-based violence (GBV), Child abuse and exploitation through awareness raising campaign and psychosocial support for survivors.
- Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH): We set up access to clean water sources, construct sanitation facilities and promote hygiene practices to prevent the spread of diseases.
- Education: We advocate for free access to all children to basic education and provide school materials in the communities affected by the human-caused and natural disasters to increase enrollments
- Food Security and Livelihood (FSL): We provide skills training and microloans to help communities generate income and become self-reliant. We focus on activities like agriculture, small business development, vocational training and livestock rearing.
- Non-Food Items (NFIs): During emergencies, we provide essential supplies like shelters materials, blankets, and hygiene kits to help families meet immediate needs.
Geographical coverage
Community Resilience Agency (CRA) works in four States namely: Central Equatoria, Jonglei, Upper Nile, and Unity States with its headquarters in Juba. We ensure comprehensive coverage in both urban and rural communities in targeted locations.
Technical Competencies
Community Resilience Agency (CRA) is a well-established National Non-Governmental organization (NNGO) in all the interventions alluded to above 100% of the staff are national with extensive ability in various thematic areas. The staff gave wealthy knowledge on the political, social, economic, cultural, security and humanitarian context of the South Sudan and each thematic areas are led by the expert on the field. The management team made up of Executive Director, Program Development Director, Thematic Leaders, Administration and Finance, Human Resources, and Logistics departments. The Executive Director is a PhD Candidate in Public Governance and Leadership, Program Development Director is holder of Master of Arts and thematic leaders are bachelor’s degree holders. The finance team are using a quick book system for fiscal management.

- Data privacy and protection: Ensure that data collected for resilience purposes is managed securely and with minimal intrusion into individuals’ privacy.
- Cultural sensitivity: Respect and incorporate diverse cultural perspectives and values when developing resilience strategies.
- Environmental justice: Consider the potential impacts of resilience efforts on the environment and ensure that they do not disproportionately affect marginalized communities.
- Community ownership: Encourage community members to take ownership of resilience initiatives and empower them to make decisions that affect their own lives.
- Transparency and accountability: Ensure that decision-making processes are transparent, and outcomes are accountable to the community.
